At T-BIC (Teijin-Brightlands Innovation Center) we are recruiting enthusiastic and hard-working talents, who want to make a difference in the society of tomorrow.

Currently, the electrification of consumer goods comes at a great environmental cost due to the scarcity of Lithium. In this project we will attempt to create new materials with performance surpassing the current standards of Sodium Ion Batteries.

Sodium is in great abundance on earth and is a byproduct of many necessary industries, naturally it is more environmentally attractive than lithium. However, the current standards mimic as much as possible the well-established Lithium tech, creating a significant performance gap between Na and Li. The project will focus on anode materials that will be produced and tested at TBIC and CHILLS laboratories in Brightlands, that is also the main location of this project. Some performance tests might be executed at Teijin partners’ own research facilities outside Brightlands by external personnel.

The project will use hard carbon-based materials, polymers and inorganic fillers with chemicals to improve the properties. The project may involve the use of hazardous chemicals at temperature above room. Some of the materials used may require chemical modifications to meet the scope. The modified materials will be primarily characterized at CHILLS. Some characterizations might be completed at Teijin partners’ facilities outside Brightlands.

The project will explore up to 20 modifications that will differ in composition and preparation methods. Each system will be reported for failure or success. The progress reports will be written biweekly and will include laboratory procedure and analytical results. In addition, a monthly report summarizing the progress will be delivered and a final report will be submitted.
